Kramden’s Train-the-Trainer Program in Winston-Salem brings digital skills to more people in NC.

Winston-Salem participants in the Computer Basics class receive a laptop when they complete the course.

Community Technology Instructors (CTIs) Wanda and Darlie have delivered three sessions of Kramden’s Computer Basics program to members of the Housing Authority of Winston-Salem community. Wanda and Darlie attended our two-day training in August and have been leading classes since.

Train the Trainer is Kramden’s strategy for bringing our digital literacy curriculum to more communities across North Carolina. CTIs like Wanda and Darlie are selected by our partners to be digital skills ambassadors in their communities. CTIs come to Kramden Institute’s location in Durham, where our instructors share their expertise in implementing our Computer Basics curriculum and offer best practices in teaching computer skills to a wide set of audiences. At the end of the training, our CTIs have all the knowledge and skills they need to deliver the class to others and they receive a stipend to teach these classes when they return to their communities.

Kramden’s Computer Basics curriculum consists of a series of four two-hour classes. Upon completion, students have learned the basics of operating a computer, office productivity programs, and how to safely navigate the internet, and each participant is awarded a refurbished laptop computer. The first of the four rounds of Computer Basics for Winston-Salem Housing Authority residents were completed on September 23rd, with the most recent class taking place on October 13th.

We are excited to begin this partnership with the Housing Authority of Winston-Salem, and we look forward to continuing the Train the Trainer Program in more communities throughout North Carolina.
