Come JOIN Us!

At Kramden, we are an organization of the community and for the community. We could not do what we do without the support of thousands of volunteers who generously give their time and passion.

From refurbishing computers to award days where we give these computers to great students, to recycling drives around the state – we are always looking for volunteers with a passion for our mission and a willingness to help. If you have any questions, feel free to contact us at

New Volunteer Form

If you are a new volunteer, you must fill out our NEW VOLUNTEER FORM and bring it with you the first time you volunteer.

Volunteer FAQ – PLEASE READ!

Do I have to know anything about computers to volunteer?

Not at all! We have detailed instructions and experienced volunteers to help you out. No tech knowledge necessary.

Can anyone volunteer?

As long as you are 12 years of age or older, YES! If you are 18 or younger, you can still volunteer but you will need your parents or guardians to sign your volunteer form.

Can groups volunteer at Kramden?

Yes, groups are welcome to participate in Kramden volunteer events. Groups of 5 or more should email to check availability. Corporate groups who would like to volunteer outside of our scheduled event times should take a look at opportunities on the Group Sponsorship page.

Where do I volunteer?

Unless noted differently, all volunteer events are held at Kramden Institute. Directions HERE.

Can I just show up?

NO! If you are a new volunteer, you must fill out your NEW VOLUNTEER FORM (bring it with you to the volunteer event) as well as register. If you have volunteered before, you must still register for the event as space is limited. Super Geeks and Management Team members can come to any event without first registering.

What do I have to wear?

You must wear closed-toe shoes. No flip-flops, sandals, birkenstocks, etc. You get the picture. Other than that, wear what you want – no offensive language or pictures please!

Will there be food?

It depends. At our Wednesday Work Nights and Mini-Geek-A-Thons, we usually have food and drinks. We ask for a food donation of $3 or so to offset the cost. For our other events, please bring your own snacks.

Do you have non-event volunteer opportunities available?

During the summer months (June 12-August 22), all volunteer opportunities will be posted on the Volunteer Events page. Open Monday and Tuesday afternoons and will resume in the fall.

What about Mandatory Service?

We offer Mandatory Service opportunities as well. Please scroll below to see more information about our Mandatory Service guidelines.

Can I, or my organization, sponsor a volunteer event?

Yes! Just head over to our Group Sponsorships page to see how we can work together.

Help Teach!

What: Share your knowledge! Kramden teaches basic digital literacy classes as well as more advanced topics to any and all members of the community interested in learning more. If you have a passion for teaching, or special expertise on a specific tech topic, please email us at to see whether you might be able to help. Kramden is also looking for volunteers willing to be teacher assistants in our classrooms.

When: Basic digital literacy classes are taught on Mondays from 5:30 to 7:30 PM. Other classes will occur at different times and are not always held at Kramden.

Corporate or Organizational Volunteering

Although Kramden receives large amounts of donated equipment, each computer still costs approximately $99 to refurbish, including the costs of hardware, overhead, transportation, awarding and repair. In order to cover these costs, Kramden offers several unique sponsorship opportunities for businesses, corporations, foundations, or individuals who want to make a tangible contribution to their community!

Mandatory Service

Kramden Institute welcomes select volunteers needing to complete court-related community service. Community service hours for any court-related requirement includes, but is not limited to, any lawyer-recommended service, court-appointed service as well as individuals needing to complete hours for a pending charge. If you are unsure whether you fall into these categories, please email us at

All approved mandatory community service volunteers choosing to complete their hours at Kramden must meet with the Director of Programs before any community service hours can be fulfilled. The Director of Programs will review Kramden’s current volunteer needs, schedule and code of conduct. Volunteers must bring all necessary court documentation concerning their community service assignment. Additionally, all volunteers must first complete the New Volunteer Information Form and any volunteer under the age of 18 must return this form with a signed parental release before any volunteer hours are completed. If your volunteer documentation must be notarized, Kramden will require a $15 administrative fee.

Please note that Kramden only accepts certain types of non-violent offenders:
