Join us for our MLK Day Donation Drive with Note in the Pocket

This Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Kramden and Note in the Pocket are joining forces for a donation drive that will make a real difference in the lives of North Carolinians. We’re inviting you to bring your new or gently used items:

Monday, January 20, 2025

10:00 AM to 2:00 PM

1010 MLK Jr. Parkway in Durham, NC

As we honor the legacy of Dr. King, Governor Josh Stein has called on residents across the state to dedicate their day of service to supporting those impacted by Hurricane Helene in Western North Carolina. The hurricane left families and communities reeling, with many losing not only their homes but also essential items like clothing and technology. This is your chance to be part of the recovery effort and help neighbors in need.

Note in the Pocket: Keeping Kids Warm

For children in the Triangle and Western North Carolina, winter can be harsh, especially for families already facing financial challenges. Imagine trying to learn, play, and grow while shivering in the cold. Warm, gift-quality clothing can make all the difference for these kids.

Note in the Pocket is seeking:

  • Coats: A warm coat is often the difference between staying healthy or getting sick during the cold months.
  • Snow boots: Kids need durable footwear to stay warm and protected as they walk to school or play outside.
  • Long johns: A layer of insulation goes a long way toward keeping children comfortable.
  • Like-new clothing: Everyday essentials in good condition can help children focus on their studies instead of worrying about what to wear.

Your donation ensures that children can face winter with dignity and warmth.

Kramden Institute: Restoring Connections with Technology

Western North Carolina communities impacted by Hurricane Helene are also struggling to rebuild their digital infrastructure. Many families lost the technology they rely on to work, learn, and connect with loved ones.  Kramden has already sent 150 laptops and 99 cell phones with prepaid service to  Western NC.

We continue to need donations of:

  • Laptops: Whether for schoolwork, job applications, or virtual doctor’s visits, a laptop can be a lifeline.
  • Tablets: Perfect for educational apps or staying in touch with family.
  • Cellphones: A critical tool for communication and safety.
  • Peripherals: Mice, keyboards, and chargers help make these devices fully functional.

By donating gently used technology, you’re helping families get back on their feet and ensuring students have the tools they need to succeed.

How You Can Help

The MLK Day Donation Drive is your opportunity to directly support those in need. Here’s how you can get involved:

  1. Check your closet and drawers: Look for gently used clothing items, coats, or winter gear that are still in great condition.
  2. Search your tech stash: Do you have an old laptop, phone, or tablet sitting unused? Now’s the time to pass it on.
  3. Spread the word: Share the event with friends, family, and coworkers. The more donations we collect, the bigger the impact.
