Assistant Instructor – Summer Camps

Kramden offers a variety of technology education classes, camps, and after-school programs to engage youth in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math). Kramden is in need of assistant instructors to help lead summer camps listed below:

  • Photo Exploration: June 11-15, grades 6-8, location – Kramden Institute, Durham
  • Video Exploration: June 18-22, grades 6-8, location – Kramden Institute, Durham
  • Circuit Building: June 25-29, grades 6-8, location – Kramden Institute, Durham
  • Drone Flight: July 9-13, grades 6-8, location – NC State McKimmon Center, Raleigh
  • Build a PC: July 9-11, grades 6-8, location – Kramden Institute, Durham
  • Comic Creators: July 16-20, grades 3-5, location – Kramden Institute, Durham
  • Drone Flight: July 23-27, grades 6-8, location – Bond Park, Cary
  • Game Design: July 30-August 3, grades 6-8, location – Kramden Institute, Durham
  • Photo Exploration: August 6-10, grades 6-8, location – Kramden Institute, Durham
  • Video Exploration: August 13-17, grades 6-8, location – Kramden Institute, Durham
  • Circuit Building: August 20-24, grades 6-8, location – Kramden Institute, Durham

The Assistant Instructor will:

  • Support the lead instructor in the presentation of camp curriculum
  • Set proper expectations of behavior and manage student compliance to ensure a positive learning environment for all students
  • Maintain accurate attendance and participation documentation for each camp
  • Implement Kramden’s program assessment methods
  • Create a fun and open environment for learning

 Employment Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s level college degree or higher
  • Teaching experience (preference will be given to active public school teachers and teacher assistants)
  • Experience working with students in grades 3-8
  • Excellent verbal communication skills with the ability to present ideas and information clearly
  • Ability to confidently manage student behavior
  • A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • Commitment to working with students from differing backgrounds and of varying levels of ability

 Desired Background/Skills:

  • General knowledge of the camp subject matter is preferred. These topics include: creating content on a computer (graphics, sound, video, etc.), quadcopter and/or drone flight, electronics and simple circuits, computer technology (how to install components, load software, troubleshoot), video game design and basic computer programming.

Compensation:

  • $15 an hour
  • A brief paid training will be required
