About Kramden Institute:

Kramden Institute’s mission is to provide technology tools and training to bridge the digital divide. From its inception, Kramden’s programs have been designed to support those left on the wrong side of the digital divide: low-income families and individuals of color, many of whom do not own a computer and, in many cases, have never learned how to use one. Kramden has worked with similar population groups across the state in order to address all three facets of the digital divide: access to computers, digital literacy skills, and finding affordable broadband access.  Since 2003, Kramden has refurbished and awarded more than 43,000 computers to disadvantaged students and families across North Carolina, with over 3,400 distributed in 2020.

Kramden expanded its programs in 2014 to include educational programs for members of the community who lack basic computing skills. Since that time, over 7,500 people have completed an adult computer classes, taken part in a STEM after-school programs, or enrolled in a workshop or technology camp, helping to fill a crucial community knowledge gap in an increasingly connected world.

Position Description:

The Office Manager will be an integral member of Kramden’s team and serve as the initial point of contact for equipment donors, volunteers, and clients. This person will handle administrative and receptionist duties as well as financial record-keeping for Kramden’s daily operations. Work schedule is generally Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 9 am – 5 pm and Wednesday 10 am – 6 pm. Additional evening and weekend events will be required from time to time.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Administrative Support / Office Management

  • Handle administrative duties for the efficient operation of the office including answering phones and greeting visitors, donors, and clients.
  • Provide operational and administrative support to the Kramden team.
  • Order and maintain supplies and equipment.

Business Operations

  • Maintain financial records in accordance with internal financial policies and procedures.
  • Process accounts payable and receivable, document surplus sales, and process reimbursements.
  • Oversee yearly organizational financial audit and 990 preparations.
  • Prepare financial reports for quarterly Board of Directors meetings.
  • Make bank deposits.
  • Track equipment and monetary donations.

General Operations

  • Receive and track computer equipment donations from individual donors.
  • Assist program team with scheduling and fulfilling computer requests.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required. Associate’s degree or higher preferred.
  • Conversational Spanish language skills preferred.
  • Familiarity with accounting systems is a must, including creating budgets, creating and processing invoices, creating reports, etc.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office /OpenOffice productivity suites, Google applications, and QuickBooks preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills including time, task, and resource management.
  • Experience working in a collaborative team environment.
  • Attention to detail and outstanding organizational skills.

Salary and Benefits:

  • Salary Range: $38,000 – $40,000
  • Bonus: Annual bonus opportunity based on performance and fiscal health of Kramden
  • Healthcare: Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO with 80% of the premiums offset by Kramden
  • Retirement: SIMPLE IRA with 3% matching funds
  • Leave: Three weeks PTO (2 weeks flexible with 3rd week between Christmas and New Year’s)

Position Title: Production Associate

Classification: Part-Time Employee

Reports To:  Director of Technical Operations

Position Description:        

Kramden Institute is a 501(c)(3) whose mission is to provide technology tools and training to bridge the digital divide. Since our founding in 2003, we have refurbished and awarded over 42,000 computers to 83 of North Carolina’s 100 counties. Kramden also offers a wide range of educational programs aimed at teaching students and members of the community basic and advanced computer literacy skills through which to better their lives.

Kramden is looking for qualified applicants for a part-time Production Associate (PA) position to start immediately. The PA will interact with both volunteers and staff to assist with the technology refurbishing process. The position will be responsible for all tasks throughout the hardware refurbishing process including hardware diagnostics, troubleshooting, software deployment, material handling, and warehouse logistics.

Principal Job Duties:

  • Sort and process incoming equipment into various production, recycling and sales streams
  • Perform diagnostic testing and troubleshooting on incoming hardware
  • Deploy software in both Linux and Windows environments
  • Prepare hardware shipments to clients including packaging and shipment
  • Maintain clean and efficient workspace for volunteers and staff alike
  • Pickup and deliver IT equipment to/from partner organizations

Administrative:

  • Track incoming/outgoing equipment shipments
  • Inventory management and assessment
  • Attend staff meetings and work with other members of the Production staff
  • Assist with corporate-sponsored volunteer events as needed

Employment Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Flexible schedule
  • Extensive knowledge, skills, and familiarity with computer hardware, software, and troubleshooting
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. often and repeatedly
  • A successful background criminal check
  • A valid driver’s license

Salary and Benefits:

  • Approximately 25 hours per week between the hours of 9AM-5PM M-F
  • $15 per hour
