Since Kramden’s founding in 2003, we have helped thousands of students across North Carolina take their first step in finally being able to bridge the digital divide. At Kramden, our focus is to help these deserving students fulfill their full academic and personal potential by awarding them home computers when they had none before. By working in concert with our partners, from individual volunteers to corporate sponsors, we help serve the needs of the community by refurbishing/recycling/reusing used computers.

Quick facts about Kramden:

    • Over 5,500 volunteers have spent time refurbishing, recycling and awarding computers to students since Kramden was founded
    • Sometime in early 2012, more than 10,000 computers will have been awarded
    • Almost 40,000 people have been impacted by Kramden computers
    • Kramden hosts a Wednesday Work Night almost every week of the year for volunteers to come help out
    • Kramden has a 1500 sq.ft. warehouse where computers are sorted, refurbished and tested with enough room for 50 volunteers at a time
    • As of 2012, Kramden has awarded computers in 57 of North Carolina’s 100 counties
    •  Each computer takes approximately 4.5 hours to refurbish from start (triage) to finish (final testing)
    • In 2011, Kramden welcomed 1,155 volunteers who contributed over 17,000 hours of volunteer service
